The can of Pepsi briefly visible in The Empire Strikes Back (during the attack on Hoth) was deliberately planted on set by a disgruntled technician.

I think I heard about this in grade school.. but didn't they find it and edit it out? Anyway, I'm sure they did for the re-releases a few years ago, which is all I have on DVD.
Still, where was it in the original? Post a framegrab or something, people!

A friend of mine worked in LucasFilm's accounting department in the 90s and told me that the employee who put the Pepsi can on set was subsequently fired after they discovered that he had a deal with Pepsi to get paid to subliminally promote them. He swore there was a memo from Lucas to the head of HR and Accounting to be sure that they were not liable.

Neither IMDB nor Wikipedia list this factoid.

Nor even does Movie Mistakes, which is linked under the story! I reckon the whole thing's a myth.

There's not a single entry on the Internet to back up this claim. The Google image server lists this picture alone with no other sites pointing to any pictures.
But it's on the Internet, so it must be true.

You know what,..I hope this is true. That'd be cool.

Have just watched it back - yes I am that nerdy I have the film available 24/7 - and could see something resembling a Pepsi can at around the 0:33:57 marker - just as Vader walks in to the base at Hoth. He walks in through smoke, advances left to right, and pauses beneath/in front of a row of red lights. something white with logo on it is lying horizontally on debris behind him. the size would be consistent with a Pepsi can, but is too indistinct on my copy. Anyone else bored/lonely enough to check this out??
