Elected officials in Mexico's Oaxaca state receive one free case of tequila every month for the duration of their terms.

Great factoid, but I don't quite believe it. You see, they don't make Tequila in Oaxaca, they make Mezcal (similar, but not the same thing) and as such, it'd be a huge insult to give Oaxaca officials anything but the local drink.
(This would be akin to giving County officials in Cork City a case of Guinness (which is from Dublin) instead of the local brew, Murphy's.)
So, to clear things up...
Mexico has three spirits made from slightly different (and local) agave plants:
Sotol from Chihuahua
Mezcal from Oaxaca
Tequila from Tequila
